Calling all Buddies

Want to walk with us?

Saturday, October 18th: 10am Lake Cunningham Park, San Jose

Every year the Silicon Valley Down Syndrome Network (SVDSN) hosts a huge event, The Buddy Walk, that raises awareness and funds for the Down Syndrome community.  We’ve been a part of this community since before Whitney was even born, sharing in the resources and advice of families that are steps ahead of us in this journey.  Our first Buddy Walk was in 2010, when Whitney was 2 months old.  The next year we were in the hospital welcoming Dylan to the world.  We returned again last year with both our kids, walked the loop around the lake with the kids in the wagon, realized we actually have a number of friends in this community now as we walked around and saw familiar faces, and were generally encouraged by the rah-rah, pride, and positivity of basically everyone who is a part of this community.  Last year I was most impressed with the young lady who has Down syndrome who led the group in Zumba and the young man in high school who was an artist and self-advocate.  And let me tell you, there is no such thing as a Down Syndrome event without a wild dance party!

So, if anyone would like to join us and experience the community, it’s free to come, just let us know and we’ll plan a way to meet up!  If you register you can get lunch and a t-shirt, and there is a raffle and sponsorship for anyone who wants to donate to the SVDSN and their activities.
